The Absolute is a concept that can be traced back to Parmenides. With a nod to Spinoza it re -emerges when the post Kantians attempt to resolve the chasm between thought and being arising from Kant’s concept of the noumenon- the enigmatic and unknowable thing in itself At the same time the ‘Absolute’ appears in English Poetry of this period. This reciprocity between philosophy and Literature has never been matched.
