A Saturday School Presented by Professor Christopher Hamilton

In this class we shall aim to provide an overview of the key concepts of Simone Weil’s philosophy, exploring in particular the ideas that animated her thought from the last and most productive part of her intellectual life, such as force, necessity, gravity, grace, attention and affliction. We’ll look at the influence of the Greeks on her thinking and also at her attempts to construct a plausible conception of Christian life for a modern, sceptical age. We’ll also seek to explore some of the relations between her life and her philosophy, providing in this way a sense of her philosophical methodology.
